The Best of Livingstone - The Victoria Falls

The Victoria Falls, one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world. The falls and the surrounding areas have been declared National Parks and a World Heritage Site.

The greatest curtain of falling water and passionately called the Mosi-oa-Tunya (the Smoke that Thunders) by the locals. The Victoria Falls is a must see for every one visiting Zambia, from wildlife lovers to adrenaline junkies there is everything for every one. The Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park contains an abundant wildlife.

The best time to visit the spectacular Victoria Falls is from February to May, directly after the region’s summer rains, when you’ll see the world’s largest sheet of falling water flowing at its greatest volume.Due to the masses of spray rising from the fallen water, the full width of the Falls cannot be seen on foot. The aerial view at this time is spectacular, with clouds of spray rising high into the sky.

The best time for a Victoria Falls holiday is the dry winter period from June to August. Expect great game viewing, warm days and cool nights, little to no rain and plenty of water thundering over the falls.

The dry winter is in October through November when the water level is lowest and the weather is hot and humid. Low water levels guarantee you’ll have panoramic views on both sides of the falls, but the Zambian side (about one quarter of its width) may have dried up completely. Water flow on the Zimbabwean side is permanent but the volume reduces in the seasons.
